Reviving the Beast: Tidy Tourer's Latest Project Car – A 1991 Ford Maverick Shorty

Here's a sneak peak into Tidy Tourer's project car - a 600HP barra turbo '91 Ford Maverick SWB.

Every car has a story to tell. Today, we're thrilled to share the journey of our latest project car—a 1991 Ford Maverick (Nissan GQ Patrol) that was rescued from a shed in Rockhampton after being abandoned for five long years. This rugged Patrol, with a history as a winch truck that blew its TD42T engine during a competition, had seen better days. However, when we spotted it on an online marketplace, we knew that it was destined for greatness. So, without hesitation, we hit the road and drove from Brisbane to bring this Maverick back to life.

A Glimpse into Its Past

Before we dive into the exciting upgrades and transformations this Maverick is undergoing, let's take a moment to appreciate its storied history. Once a dependable winch truck, this Nissan GQ Patrol had faced its fair share of challenges. However, life took an unexpected turn for it when its owner relocated to Western Australia, leaving it to be gradually reclaimed by nature on his father's property. It might have been a forgotten relic, but we saw its potential and couldn't resist the opportunity to revive it.

A Second Chance

The moment we laid eyes on the Maverick, we knew it deserved a second chance at adventure. While it may have had some panel damage from its winch truck days, the absence of significant rust was a promising sign. It was time to roll up our sleeves and bring this tough Maverick back to life.

The journey to rejuvenate this Maverick has officially kicked off, and the parts have started rolling in. Here's a sneak peek at some of the upgrades that will certainly breathe new life into it:

1. 4.0L Barra Engine: A rebuilt greentop Ford Barra motor with upgraded internals to handle a big single turbo.

2. Crows Cams Valve Springs and Cams: To ensure optimal performance and power.

3. 1000cc Injectors: Enhancing fuel delivery for increased horsepower.

4. Aeroflow Intake Plenum: Maximizing air intake efficiency.

5. 90mm Throttle Body: Enhancing throttle response and airflow.

6. Aeroflow T4 High Mount Turbo Manifold: Preparing for some serious turbocharging. The build quality on this manifold is stunning, if anyone is looking to pick one up.

7. Full Haltech ECU and Dash: For precise engine management and tuning.

8. Mantic Clutch and Flywheel: Ensuring reliable power transfer.

9. Aeroflow 60mm Wastegate: Regulating boost pressure for optimal performance, so the 4.0 doesn't pop.

10. Aeroflow 90mm Turbo: This should have us sorted for a reliable 35psi.

While this list is just the tip of the iceberg, and we've definitely missed some parts, we're excited about the potential of this Maverick. With some hard work ahead, we're committed to giving it the life it deserves.
